AUSTIN, TX - 07/22/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

When choosing to partner with Hellas for sports construction, clients get the ease of working with one company that does it all.  Next week, Hellas will break ground on a $1.5-$1.9 M project at Norfolk Christian Schools in Norfolk, VA, for major improvements to the Ambassador’s multipurpose stadium.

“We went through a very extensive selection process.  We interviewed four to five different groups…We really like that [Hellas is] a one-stop shop and is completely vertically integrated,” said Todd V. Savage, Principal of TYMOFF+MOSS Architectures.

With funding from Norfolk Christian School’s Booster Club, Hellas will install Matrix® Turf with Helix technology, Cushdrain®, and Geo Plus organic infill on the field.  In addition to football lines, the field will be lined with yellow and orange markings for soccer and lacrosse.  The center of the field will display Norfolk’s signature “C” logo, in Ambassador gold and purple. Helix technology brings memory and tenacity, similar to a muscle fiber, that allows the turf to bounce back after use.  The unique shape and design makes Matrix with Helix the most resilient, stable, and durable synthetic turf on the market today.

In addition to the artificial turf, Norfolk Christian Schools has chosen to install Geo Plus organic infill — another big factor in contracting with Hellas. “Between the turf product that [Hellas] provides along with the organic infill…we really gravitated towards the organic infill,” said Savage.

Educating student-athletes grades K3-12, Norfolk Christian Academy is on the lookout for the best interest of the community and kids.  Keeping safety in mind, Hellas will be installing a Cushdrain pad — developed and produced at Hellas Polymers. The pad adds safety and comfort for athletes of all sports by increasing shock absorption and reducing stress on impact.  In addition to the safety features, Cushdrain improves drainage on the field.

“[Hellas] has done a great job in helping to educate us. [Hellas] has been extraordinarily accommodating and flexible in allowing us to slow down our decisions so that we don’t have any ‘what ifs,’ ” said Savage.

The anticipated completion date, weather permitting, for the field and fencing is October 14, Norfolk Christian School’s homecoming game.  “We hope that the weather will continue to be good so that we can have our homecoming game on our new field,” said Savage.

“We are extremely excited to be working with NCS on their new field.  They recognize quality and understand great things can happen with a great team that will not compromise just to cut corners.  It is a privilege to work with such top notch people and we are honored to be a part of it,” said Brian Jorgensen, Project Manager at Hellas Construction.
