AUSTIN, TX - 11/18/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

Hellas Construction was just awarded a contract from the town of Prosper, TX to complete their big multi-sport complex at Frontier Park. The town council voted Nov. 8, to accept Hellas’ proposal after reviewing proposals from several other companies. Hellas’ price, product safety, and references proved to cement the deal to build three baseball, softball combo fields that will serve adult or little league teams and two multi-purpose fields for football, soccer, and lacrosse.

“Our staff vetted proposals to help the council narrow down the choices,” said Mayor Ray Smith. “Price was a factor, but previous customers experiences and product safety really helped us decide,” said Smith.

Randy Bullock, Vice President of Business Development with Hellas said, “We are excited and feel very fortunate that they chose us.” He said, “We enjoyed working with Prosper ISD eight years ago and look forward to starting on this project with the town.” Hellas Construction completed the Prosper High School football field, baseball and softball fields, track, tennis courts, and indoor practice facility field in 2008.

The baseball, softball combo fields and the multi-purpose fields will both use Hellas’ patented Matrix® Turf with Helix technology and patented Realfill™ infill. “It’s the same turf we installed for the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium and ‘The Star’ practice facility,” Bullock said. “Kids will be able to play a wide-variety of sports and they will be able to host league play and tournaments,” Bullock said. “They are going to see a lot of play and have a lot of fun.”

The multi-purpose fields will also feature the Hellas Cushdrain® Shock Pad, which will improve shock absorption, while resisting rot, mildew, freeze-thaw, and compression set that is associated with normal athletic field use. “It’s added safety for kids by improving shock absorption, which may reduce concussions,” said Bullock. The Cushdrain elastic layer also improves drainage of the field, reducing downtime of the fields after heavy rains, and resulting in less cancelled games.

Smith said, “We have 20 families a week, with 2 1/2 kids, moving to Prosper.” He said, “As fast as we are growing and as much as these fields are going to be used, we decided artificial turf would give us more flexibility.” When baseball isn’t going on, they plan on using the outfields for practice and other activities. “We wanted to do this for our kids and residents,” Smith said. “This gives us a better opportunity to support all those residents.”

Hellas will partner with Dean Construction, a General Contractor from Cedar Hill, TX for the big project. They hope to break ground by the end of this year and start laying turf in March.
