Seeks to Accelerate Growth of DailyBreath, a ‘Waze-like service for Asthma.

ASHEVILLE, NC - 12/06/2017 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

HEALTHeWeather is pleased to announce its acceptance into Venture Asheville’s Elevate Program for 2018.HEALTHeWeather is among 12 start-ups selected to accelerate growth in 2018 and beyond through guidance and support from Elevate’s mentors.‘This is a natural step in the process of answering Mack Pearsall’s clarion call at The Collider’s launch last year, where he called on ‘innovators with an idea for a climate solution to come to Asheville and make your dreams come,’ said HEALTHeWeather CEO Eric Klos

As an early start-up member of the Collider, HEALTHeWeather began colliding with prospective collaborators. In the fall of 2016, the company partnered with Lenoir Rhyne University’s Pubic Health program and Assistant Professor Kimberly Price’s Health Behavior Change graduate class who did initial research on the evidence-base for the correlation of weather and environmental exposures with asthma.

Earlier this year, HEALTHeWeather partnered with Collider Member, CASE Consultants International, to expand that initial research, encompassing peer reviewed cutting edge science to analyze the threshold values of weather and climate parameters that cause greater respiratory risk for asthma patients.CASE engaged Kat Finnegan, a recent Cornell graduate, to conduct the meta research under the guidance of epidemiologist Dr. Brunilda Lugo. CASE’s research was critical to getting a beta version of the initial product, DailyBreath, to market in the iTunes App Store in early October. HEALTHeWeather CEO Eric Klos was recently a featured speaker, along with climate and health scientists, at CASE’s workshop Climate and Respiratory Health, which highlighted emerging tools and technology for enhancing our ability to adapt to a changing climate.

“I’m beginning to feel an emerging momentum towards climate solutions and I believe Asheville is poised to be a center for acceleration of those efforts and the emergence of companies like HEALTHeWeather.  ClimateCon 2018 is an example of the potential for Asheville to draw in experts from around the world in climate science, exposure science, and climate and health to discuss the needs and gaps as well as the emerging solutions in the nascent market space,” Eric said.

During his visits to Asheville, Eric has met with Josh Dorfman, Director of Entrepreneurship for Venture Asheville, and followed the progress of the Elevate program. With the developments at The Collider, its collaboration with CASE Consultants International, and prospective partnering with other NC-based organizations, HEALTHeWeather is ready to benefit from the strong guidance and support of mentors in the Elevate program.
