Tony-winning Show Hal Holbrook: Mark Twain Tonight! Comes to Torrance for One Night Only

Award-winning actor Hal Holbrook Brings Mark Twain to life during one-man show

TORRANCE, CA - 12/29/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

The Tony-winning Broadway show Hal Holbrook: Mark Twain Tonight! starring Oscar-nominated actor Hal Holbrook is coming to the James R. Armstrong Theatre for one night only, Friday, January 20, 2017 at 8:00 pm.

It isn’t often you get to see an Oscar nominee, Emmy winner, and Tony winner all on one stage.  But veteran actor Hal Holbrook makes that possible in his one-man show Mark Twain Tonight!

  • Holbrook was nominated for an Oscar for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role” for his work on Into the Wild - 2008
  • He won a Tony for Mark Twain Tonight - 1966
  • He has won and/or been nominated for Primetime Emmys for many different projects
    • Nominated “Outstanding Single Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Drama” for the televised version of Mark Twain Tonight - 1967
    • Won “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series” for playing Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln - 1976
    • Won “Outstanding Performance in Informational Programming” for Portrait of America - 1989

Holbrook first took on the persona of Mark Twain during his senior year at Denison University.  He began touring his show when he was just 29, and now, 62 years later, with over 2000 performances under his belt, Holbrook has been Mark Twain longer than Samuel L. Clemens himself!

At the age of 91, Holbrook plans to keep touring his one-man show.  As he has said, “The purpose of doing Mark Twain is to make people think.”

Come spend an evening with a beloved American literary icon played by one of the most renowned actors of our time.

Tickets for the performance on Friday, January 20, 2017, range from $60-$70 and limited seats are still available. Purchase tickets at the James R. Armstrong Theatre box office located at 3330 Civic Center Drive N, Torrance, CA 90503, by calling (310) 781-7171, or online here.
