Gail Nickerson, Selected as "Top Professional of the Year in Rural Health Care" for 2016, by the International Association Of Top Professionals (IAOTP)!

Gail Nickerson, Director of Rural Health Services for Adventist Health was selected as "Top Professional of the Year in Rural Health Care" for 2016-2017 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations and contributions to their communities.  All honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.

With over 30 years of professional experience in the rural health care industry, Gail has certainly proved herself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field. As a dynamic, results-driven leader, she has demonstrated success not only as a health systems consultant and an outpatient clinic administrator but also has made great change by staying active in her community and working with a variety of nonprofit organizations. As Director of Rural Health Services for Adventist Health in Roseville, CA, her key responsibilities is overseeing over fifty Rural Health Clinics in California, Oregon and Washington. Her expertise is in Healthcare Management, Healthcare Consulting, Community Outreach, Leadership Development, Program Management, Public Health and Public Speaking.  Gail received her Bachelor’s Degree from Sarah Lawrence College in 1970 and her Teacher’s certificate from the Notre Dame University of Nelson in 1975.

Gail remains active in her community and has been recognized worldwide for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession. She is the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Rural Health Clinics (NARHC) and the founder and Board President of the California Association of Rural Health Clinics (CARHC). She is also the Vice Chair of the NRHA Rural Health Congress, and a Board Member and Past President of the California State Rural Health Association (CSRHA). She was also appointed by Governor Brown to the California Commission on Aging (CCoA). Gail is the Co-Chair of the California Hospital Association (CHA)’s Hospital-Based Outpatient Clinics Committee. In 2016 Gail was inducted as a lifetime member of the International Association of Top Professionals as “Top Director of the Year in Rural Health Care.”  In 2015, she was selected as an honorary member of the National Association of Professional Women.  In 2013, Gail received the NRHA’s President’s Award “for being a leader and driving force in enhancing the quality of life for rural Americans”.  In 2012, she received the NARHC’s Ron Nelson Award “for outstanding leadership, dedication and commitment to the advancement of Rural Health Clinics” and the CHA’s Certificate of Distinction “for her voluntary efforts in connection with rural health clinics and outpatient clinics”. She represented Rural Health Clinics on the federal HPSA/MUP Negotiated Rulemaking Committee in 2011, and was a recipient of the 2010 Rural Champion for Community Leadership award from CSRHA.

Looking back, Gail attributes her success to always striving for excellence, always being kind and respectful toward others, having the utmost integrity, staying passionate in all her endeavors, being strong and persevering through challenges.  For the future, she will continue to grow as a professional and wants to continue to make a difference in patients’ lives by improving rural health care.
