Ekta Talwar, Co-Founder of Uprotect LLC, selected as "Humanitarian of the Year" for 2016 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)!

Ekta Talwar, Co-Founder of Uprotect LLC, was selected as "Humanitarian of the Year" for 2016-2017 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). 

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations and contributions to their communities.  All honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.

With just a few years of experience as an entrepreneur, Ekta has already proven herself an accomplished professional and an inspiration to her community.  Uprotect LLC, is a personal safety mobile application that promotes public safety for campuses and communities across the United States.  The app plans to feature police integration to provide safety alerts on an in city-based format, and a forum where people can report suspicious activity, racial discrimination, drug sales, abuse and terrorist related suspicious activity to the police and community members. Ekta was inspired to create this app because of a gang rape in India, where a woman was raped and killed which garnered national attention.  Ekta felt compelled to help make the world a safer place for women, students and all people of the community. 

Uprotect is quickly gaining huge recognition and success nationally, and Ekta is thrilled by the positive feedback and attention it is getting. The app will be launched in September 2016.  Being Co-Founder, her key responsibilities include research, business development, marketing, foreign policy, policy analysis and international relations.  Ekta is receiving her Masters of Arts in Global Security Studies from Johns Hopkins University in 2017. In 2010 she received her Post Graduate Diploma in Social Work and Social Policy from Massey University and in 2007, received her certificate in Alternate Dispute Resolution from York University. 

Ekta remains active in her community and has been recognized worldwide for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession. She donates and volunteers to Amnesty International, inducted as a Lifetime Member and selected as “Outstanding Professional of the Year” by the Worldwide Association of Female Professionals; and named “Humanitarian of the Year” for 2016 by the International Association of Top Professionals.  When not working or attending school, Ekta enjoys fitness, horseback riding, swimming, travelling and cooking.

Looking back, one of Ekta’s top highlights of her career is when she worked on a Think Tank in India, where she researched the freshwater conflict between Egypt and Ethiopia. She attributes her success to the talented team that surrounds her and keeps her motivated.  For the future, she will continue to grow as a professional and wants to continue to make a difference in people’s lives by helping to protect their general welfare and safety.
