EDGY TEEN SOCIAL MEDIA FILM SET FOR LAUNCH ON OCTOBER 7

The dark side of social media is explored in Dot Five Films’ newest feature, Distortion: A Social Media Story, which is set for VOD and DVD release on Friday, October 7, 2016. The film is a hard-hitting, realistic look at the dangers teens face when using social media in their everyday lives.

Distortion: A Social Media Story will be available on-demand exclusively from Amazon Video, and on DVD from the film’s webpage, www.DistortionStory.com. The film has been building its audience through various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter at the handle @DistortionStory.

In his feature film debut, director Javier Espinoza tells the story of several high school students who use social media in various destructive ways. From girls who navigate the world of social media “fame,” to guys who use dating apps to hook up, the impact of social media on youth culture is seen.

In this day and age where news of social media misuse is commonplace, this film explores topics like cyber-bullying, self-esteem and body issues, relationships, and other ways social media can affect our daily lives. As director Javier Espinoza mentioned, “I wanted to explore the issues with social media that young people are going through right now.”  These issues are prevalent, yet they have not been fully explored in film. The filmmaker hopes to raise awareness for these issues and start a conversation about the role social media plays in our society.

Dot Five Films is based in Los Angeles, CA. Director Javier Espinoza (born 1978) is a writer and filmmaker from Los Angeles, CA. He taught film production to high school students in Southern California for more than 10 years. He has produced numerous short films, including “THE LOTTERY WINNER”, which won Best Screenplay and Best Actor at the 2014 Newport-Mesa Film Festival. Distortion: A Social Media Story is Javier’s first feature film.
