Dr. Michael W. Langston, Professor of Chaplaincy Ministries for Columbia International University, was named "Top Religious Leader of the Year for 2016-2017 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)!

Michael W. Langston, D.Min, Professor of Chaplaincy Ministries for Columbia International University, was named "Top Religious Leader of the Year" for 2016-2017 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)!

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations and contributions to their communities.  All honorees will be invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.

With over 30 years of experience as a chaplain, Dr. Langston has certainly proved himself as an accomplished professional and leader in the industry. He has served as a Healthcare Chaplain for a major medical center, a Law Enforcement Chaplain for the Sheriff's department in North Carolina and as a Military Chaplain in the US Navy.  Michael's diplomatic mentoring skills in religion, conflict resolution, crises management and extensive knowledge in ministry and chaplaincy have been successfully proven as he has served all around the world (Afghanistan, Germany, Honduras, Iceland, Iraq, Japan, Korea and Kuwait). 

Dr. Langston states that being a Chaplain has given him the opportunity to "walk with people thru the most difficult times and crisis of their lives," whether it be in their personal relationships, family, or work environment. He indicated that his responsibility is to help them, comfort them, guide them, and when necessary lead them through these crisis as a bearer of the presence of God.

Coming from a large family, Dr. Langston has 5 siblings who are teachers and doctors, all caring for people which has been a natural progression for him and his family.  The foundation of teaching, caring, and helping others have always been apart of his life.

Dr. Langston first received his B.S in Physical Education/Biology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette; M.Div in New Testament Theology and Pastoral Care from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; M.A in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College; and D.Min in Military Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care from Bethel University. Dr. Langston is presently a PhD Candidate in Practical Theology, with an anticipated graduation date of May 2018 from Kings College, University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Scotland.

Looking back, Dr. Langston's success and continued growth has been proven through his educational leadership, visionary thinking, spiritual direction and community outreach. Michael truly has a passion for comforting, caring and advising people through the difficulties of life. He now looks forward, with anticipation, to what the future has in store as he continues to strive to make a difference in the world.
