PANAMA CITY, FL - 04/26/2017 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

Dermatology Specialists of Alabama, Florida, Georgia & Mississippi have joined the fight against skin cancer by offering no-cost and potentially life-saving skin cancer screenings at twenty-one of its southeastern locations between Monday, May 1st and Friday, May 26th for any adult who has not had their skin screened in the past 12 months.

To find the nearest participating location and schedule a screening, please call 877-231-3376 (DERM).

One in five Americans will develop some type of skin cancer over the course of their lifetimes. With early detection and treatment, however, most skin cancers are completely curable. Screenings are a great opportunity to have a specialist visually inspect your skin including moles, freckles and other marks. There is no need to take blood, and nothing will be cut or removed at the time of the screening.

In addition to having your skin examined annually by a board-certified dermatologist, Dermatology Specialists encourage you to wear sunscreen daily. If outdoors, generously apply a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 30 or higher to all exposed skin and reapply every two hours. To make using sunscreen a little more fun, Dermatology Specialists is now offering GlitterTots sparkle sunscreen at select Aqua Medical Spa locations. GlitterTots sparkle screen is an SPF 30+ sunscreen with a fresh scent, natural color and sparkles, which makes it fun for toddlers, tweens and teens. GlitterTots is made in the USA from natural ingredients including aloe, shea butter and coconut oil and offers broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

Recent research has shown that the incidence of skin cancer is rising at epidemic levels. One American dies of melanoma almost every hour. With early detection, however, melanoma has a 98 percent survival rate. Dermatology Specialists has partnered with the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery to encourage the public to choose healthy sun-safe behaviors, including skin cancer prevention screenings, using sunscreen regularly and practicing skin self-exams monthly.
