IVF/IUI Procedures Currently Not Covered Under TRICARE and VA Health Coverage

SYRACUSE, NY - 05/26/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

On the eve of Memorial Day weekend, CNY Fertility Centers Founder and Director Dr. Robert Kiltz today announced that CNY Fertility will offer free in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intrauterine insemination (IUI) services to area U.S. military servicemen and women with a service-related injury that challenges their fertility.

Currently, the Department of Defense (DoD) TRICARE system offers only basic infertility testing and treatment for service members, their spouses or dependents, and similarly, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) does not offer advanced reproductive services to veterans and their families.

“Our servicemen and women make great sacrifices for our nation – many return from battle with severe emotional and physical wounds,” said Dr. Kiltz.  “It is unfortunate that the DoD and VA health systems do not cover needed advanced fertility treatments to overcome physical challenges suffered through the brutality of combat.  This is one small way that the CNY Fertility family can give back to the men and women who have sacrificed so much to keep us safe and free.”

While active-duty military personnel can access limited reproductive technologies within the Defense Health system, these specialized services are concentrated far from Upstate New York at five military treatment facilities in San Antonio, Texas, Honolulu, Hawaii, Bethesda, Maryland, San Diego, California, and Tacoma, Washington.   And the most common fertility treatment procedures like IUI and IVF are not considered a covered benefit under TRICARE, even for servicemen and women whose infertility is a direct result of a service-connected disability or combat wound.  Similarly, advanced reproductive services like IUI and IVF are not offered at all by the VA Health system.

“When it comes to building a family, CNY Fertility knows that everyone’s story is different, every single body is unique and overflowing with hope,” added Dr. Kiltz.  “That’s true for our wounded service men and women too.  We’ve helped thousands of families in Upstate New York expand; today we extend our experience and expertise to those military families who have lost hope that their injuries preclude them from ever experiencing the blessing of fertility.”
